Exploration Through the Arts
Young Explorers is a multidisciplinary arts education program for Austin-area students in grades pre-K to 5, connecting arts instruction with larger goals of developing awareness and understanding of diverse artistic and cultural traditions. The program provides instruction in different disciplines, including visual arts, music, and dance, guiding students to create their own works and culminating in a student showcase at the end of each semester.
The objectives of this program are to provide students with unique opportunities to participate in and develop deeper understanding of the artistic traditions, aesthetics, and embodied knowledge of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural groups.
Program Objectives
Accessibility
Provide high-quality arts instruction and meaningful arts and cultural experiences to students in Austin’s underserved communities, particularly those from low-income families with limited access to these types of programs.
Cultural Awareness
Develop awareness and understanding for different cultures and cultural traditions and encourage young minds to think critically and empathize with diverse groups of people, including those who may have backgrounds and cultures different from their own.
Prioritize Equity
Support and uplift artists and artistic traditions from marginalized and/or minority communities and provide opportunities for children and families in minority positions to see their artistic and cultural traditions celebrated by others.
Young Explorers Spring Showcase
All are invited to join us Mothers’ Day weekend for our Spring Showcase celebrating our Young Explorers and their artistic achievements!
Through our Young Explorers program, children in grades pre-K to 5 learn about different artistic disciplines, mediums, and techniques. The young artists tap into their innate creativity to make original work individually and in groups, and they’re excited to showcase some of their art.
This is a family-friendly event, open to the public, with arts activities and light refreshments to enjoy.
Please RSVP prior to attending.
