Wonderful India Workshop Series: Tulu Traditions

Enjoy a multi-sensory, interactive workshop on the performing arts and cultural traditions of the Tulu people from South India. Experience the music and dance traditions of the Tulu people through hands-on, participatory demonstrations. Learn about the vibrant festivals and cultural practices from the Tulu region through engaging presentation and discussion with a local Tulu artist. And enjoy a sampling of dishes from the region.

Parking: Free parking in the parking garage located below the Baca Center. Elevators available in the center of the parking garage leading up into the building.

About the Artist Presenter:
Sreedevi Jairaj is an artist born and raised in the South India state of Karnataka. Now living in Austin along with her husband, Jairaj, who is also from Karnataka’s Tulu community, she maintains ties to her cultural roots by imparting Tuluva knowledge and traditions to their two sons and incorporating elements of Tulu culture into her artwork and artistic practices. Sreedevi also teaches Tulu folk music and dance to youth in the Austin area through her community dance ensemble, The Tulu Tribe.
