In this month’s meetup, we’re talking about those serendipitous moments of creative inspiration that can come when working with AI tools, focusing on the “happy accidents” (in the words of Bob Ross) that can arise during the creative process.

AI doesn’t always do what you expect—and sometimes, that’s a good thing. From bizarre outputs to weird hallucinations to surprising prompt results, those “happy accidents” can sometimes lead you to new ideas, moments of inspiration, and creative breakthrough. What accidents have you encountered in your work with AI, and how have they pushed your creativity in ways you hadn’t planned? How did you decide which accidents were worth developing and which ones should be ignored?

To investigate these questions, we’ll look at examples of work from artists and creatives incorporating AI technologies into their creative processes.

Artists and the Age of AI is a group for artists, creatives, and technologists in Austin working at the intersection of art and AI. We value innovation, human artistry, and the ethical, responsible, and productive use of AI in the development of creative work.

We host in-person meetups the second Thursday of the month at Capital Factory in downtown Austin. Our meetups are a warm, collegial, and inviting space to exchange perspectives, opinions, and concerns about the current state and future of the arts, AI, and technology.

Meetups are free and open to the public. All are welcome. You do not need a Capital Factory membership to attend.
