SUMMARY:Science Reveals a New Ancient Civilization
DESCRIPTION:One of the most contentious topics in prehistory today is to address who the Indians are. Colonial studies using linguistics proposed that Central Asians invaded or migrated to India during 1500 BCE\, effectively replacing the existing civilization. While this received wisdom continues to dominate history textbooks in USA and the world\, it is rejected by a vast section of Indians who believe otherwise. Today multi-disciplinary science from diverse areas such as genetics\, archaeology\, climatology\, geology\, astronomy are revealing the truth about the Indian civilization. The speaker will take the audience on a vast journey over time\, harnessing published scientific results to bear upon the antiquity of the Indian civilization. \n____________________\nLimited seats available.\nRSVP required to attend\, with suggested pay-what-you-can donation to support additional and ongoing programs. Free tickets are limited. Please RSVP with donation and reserve the free tickets for community members in need. \nWhen: Saturday\, April 20\, 2024 | 1:30 to 3:30p\nWhere: 3806 Cherrywood Rd\, Austin\, TX 78722\nParking: Free parking available streetside and in Maplewood Elementary School lot at 3809 Maplewood Ave. \n____________________________\nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Raj Vedam is an Electrical Engineer\, with many years of multi-disciplinary work experience in diverse industries including Power\, Aircraft\, analog and digital Electronic Design Automation\, and Oil & Gas. With several journal and conference papers and patents\, he is an innovation leader\, with current interests including optimization\, modeling and machine learning. \nRaj Vedam’s research on the roots of modern sciences\, mathematics and technology has led to new insights. Whereas Western narratives favor the origin of astronomy and math (among other fields) as having originated outside India and imported into India during various invasions\, Raj Vedam’s multi-disciplinary studies reveal otherwise. His research proposes an ancient Indian civilization that made advances in several fields of knowledge. \nAs Public Speaker\, he has delivered over 300 talks in various cities in India & USA. His YouTube videos have more than 4 million views. He is a visiting faculty at Hindu University of America (Florida)\, Rishihood University (Haryana\, India)\, and Arsha Seva Kendram (Coimbatore\, India) and offers courses on his research findings. He is on the advisory council of Dharma Civilization Foundation (California). \n_________________________\nAbout the Festival\nWonderful India is a month-long festival featuring local artists and performers representing different regions and traditions of India. SUMMARY:Interaction Design for Craft Artists (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Interaction Design for Craft Artists:\nHow Open-Source Technology Can Augment Traditional Craft Mediums \nThis talk offers exposure to the processes\, tools\, and technology that designers use to improve the relationship between people and physical objects. We will discuss low-tech\, open-source solutions centered around traditional crafts\, such as woodworking\, textiles\, ceramics\, and metalworking. This is not just about 3D printers or laser cutters. This is an opportunity for crafts people to rethink how they can bring delight to their work through interactive technology that still centers their labor as a maker. \nArtists in all disciplines are welcome and encouraged to attend this free online event.\nReserve your seat\, and register on Zoom at this link. \n  \nAbout the Speaker \nCarlissa Arrow is an Alabama raised\, Boston-based product designer that works at the intersection of art\, design\, and technology. Carlissa studied Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University and recently completed her Masters in Design Engineering at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work experience has spanned across multiple industries from manufacturing to product development at some familiar places like Hasbro and P&G. \nWhen she is not at work\, Carlissa spends most of her time drawing dancing jellyfish illustrations\, or tearing down sewing machines. Overtime\, she has become a strong advocate for the “power of making” and its emotional\, cognitive\, and economic impact on local communities. Carlissa hopes through her work she can show folks how art\, design\, and technology can work together in harmony to augment one another.
